Rear Admiral Solomon "Warlock" Bates is a Naval Aviator, graduate of TOPGUN, and a supporting antagonist of Top Gun: Maverick. Warlock serves as the commander of the Naval Aviation Warfighting Development Center (NAWDC).

Warlock and VADM Beau "Cyclone" Simpson both helped assemble a team of elite naval aviators for an urgent mission: to bomb a uranium enrichment facility of an unnamed rogue nation. He appears more trusting of Captain Mitchell and how he teaches, however, he knows Cyclone has the final authority in the actions the TOPGUN Grads do and from time to time he may give Maverick constructive criticism. He helps lead the mission and was very relieved when it was a success. When Maverick's F/A-18 was shot down, he ordered a "Search and Rescue" to find him, however Cyclone turned it down because bandits/enemy aircraft was still in the air. He cheered for the safe return of CAPT Pete "Maverick" Mitchell.
