Charlotte "Charlie" Blackwood is a civilian contractor at TOPGUN. She was also a love interest of LT Pete "Maverick" Mitchell.

Top Gun[]

Charlotte Blackwood became a civilian contractor and an instructor at the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. Every few weeks she would meet 10-20 new pilots.

At a party the day before the program started, Charlie met Maverick, LTJG Nick "Goose" Bradshaw, LT Rick "Hollywood" Neven, LT Tom "Iceman" Kazansky and the other TOPGUN students. She told Maverick she doesn't date students. She taught the group on the first day and Maverick claimed the numbers she was teaching were false because he inverted a maneuver with a MiG-28, which disproves US intelligence on the enemy aircraft's performance.

The two of them fell in love within the next few weeks and they shared a romantic scene at the dockyard shortly before Goose's death. After the death of Goose, Charlie along with the other people at TOPGUN mourned him. Shortly afterward, Maverick and the other students graduated and CDR Mike "Viper" Metcalf called them to return to USS Enterprise to deal with a "crisis", providing air support for the rescue of a stricken ship that has drifted into hostile waters.

Notes[]

  • Charlotte Blackwood is based on a real-life person, Christine Fox, who worked at the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.
  • Originally Kelly McGillis' character was written to be an aerobics instructor who had no connection to TOPGUN in order to stave off suggesting the film promoted fraternization.
