The Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet is the primary multirole fighter jet depicted in Top Gun: Maverick. It replaced the Grumman F-14 Tomcat, which was the primary fighter jet depicted in Top Gun and retired in 2006.

F/A-18E

At least three single-seat F/A-18Es are shown in the Top Gun: Maverick trailer. One has Maverick's name painted on the side and features a similar scheme as the Super Hornets used by Air Test and Evaluation Squadron 31 (VX-31) at Naval Air Station China Lake, California. One is shown piloted by Rooster, and one is shown piloted by Hangman.

F/A-18F

Two two-seat F/A-18F is depicted in the Top Gun: Maverick trailer, with Payback as the pilot in the front seat and Fanboy in the weapon systems officer (WSO) position in the rear seat in one an another is shown piloted by Phoenix with Bob as her weapons systems officer (WSO).
